A school art project has never sounded so good. Then again, its members don’t usually end up touring with some of the biggest names in rock and indie music today. But, unlike many other art projects at the Rhode Island School of Design, Fang Island decided to make a name for themselves, traveling the country and gaining countless fans and recognition along the way.
The group has received stellar reviews from Pitchfork Media and the Seattle Stranger. They even scored a coveted spot on the Spin 21st Anniversary Concert alongside indie icons The Flaming Lips and later toured with The Stone Temple Pilots and the Black Keys. We know, readers, just try not to be jealous of Fang Island’s awesome tourmates and rising star of fame.

Led by enchanting songstress Emily Ovenden, (also a member of chart topping vocal ensemble The Mediaeval Baebes and Celtic Legend), and Ross White and Marc Dyos (formerly of Descent), Pythia is well known for their powerful soprano vocals and incredibly tight instrumental work. Hugh Cornwell has been a staple of the Rock and Roll scene since before the vast majority of Rock Band players learned how to say ‘Peaches’ (The Stangler’s first hit). An illustrious songwriter and never-tiring performer, Hugh Cornwell is a legend.
According to his online biography, Cornwell had “ten hit albums and twenty-one top forty singles” while fronting the incredibly successful UK band The Stranglers.

Sometimes, things are so beautiful, it’s hard to analyze them and deconstruct them rather than just letting them be their glorious, elusive self.
There is something universally appealing about Band of Horses’ hit ballad “The Funeral”. Lead vocalist Ben Bridwell’s voice is emotive, haunting, and soothing. Although the lyrics are a bit ambiguous, there is something about the track that wraps itself around the human heart.
