ROCKGAMER STUDIOS AND SYMPHONIC METAL GROUP PYTHIA SET TO PUBLISH ‘ARMY OF THE DAMNED’ TO THE ROCK BAND NETWORK
If you are into beautiful raven haired sirens coupled with intricate guitar work, synth solos, and strong bass tracks, you needn’t look any further than the U.K.’s very own Pythia.
Led by enchanting songstress Emily Ovenden, (also a member of chart topping vocal ensemble The Mediaeval Baebes and Celtic Legend), and Ross White and Marc Dyos (formerly of Descent), Pythia is well known for their powerful soprano vocals and incredibly tight instrumental work. With intricate breakdowns, fiery frets and synth solos, the band is a powerhouse of classical metal.
The group gains its namesake from the oracle in Greek mythology known as the “chosen one”.This seems absolutely fitting considering that Pythia will be the first choice for many eager Rock Band Network fans looking for the next big name in female fronted classical metal.
Influenced by gothic themes, Pythia’s music combines classical and metal genres. With songs ranging from lost love to an army of ghost soldiers, the band explores all realms of fantasy.
Since its inception in 2007, Pythia has headlined multiple major tours and shared the stage with ex Nightwish singer Tarja and seasoned veterans of industrial metal such as Ministry.
Pythia has also fronted the Dames of Darkness Festival and a tour across Europe. They have recently played at Cryptfest, Bloodstock Open ‘09 and are poised to headline the Metal Female Voices Fest ‘10. They were also nominated for the Best Album of the Year Award at Female Metal.
Pythia’s debut album Beneath the Veiled Embrace (Golden Axe Records 2009) was devoured eagerly by critics and fans alike. Now, Pythia’s second single, “Army of the Damned” will be available to all Rock Band players.
Ovenden’s evocative and haunting lyrics add to the intensity of this gothic track. In one verse she sings “we cannot feel the sun though morning has just come, we are but shadows of the past”. It is enough to send chills down any RBN players’ spine. Renown actor Brian Blessed even lends his voice to the original track.
Pythia sounds just as amazing live as they do on their recordings. We know you can’t wait for more on this band- don’t fret – their official website offers plenty of live videos and a chance for listeners like you to join the Pythian Army!
