Hugh Cornwell has been a staple of the Rock and Roll scene since before the vast majority of Rock Band players learned how to say ‘Peaches’ (The Stangler’s first hit). An illustrious songwriter and never-tiring performer, Hugh Cornwell is a legend.

According to his online biography, Cornwell had “ten hit albums and twenty-one top forty singles” while fronting the incredibly successful UK band The Stranglers.

While searching for a new sound, Cornwell started a solo career in the late ‘80s. All ten of Cornwell’s solo albums and collaborations have been well received by critics and fans alike.

As if 21 top forty hits and 10 solo albums weren’t enough, Cornwell has even published a tell all book, The Stranglers: Song by Song, and his autobiography, A Multitude of Sins.

Cornwell’s newest and perhaps farthest reaching album, Hooverdam, is now available for free on the official website and on vinyl! How cool is that?

Cornwell’s first entry to the Rock Band Network via RockGamer Studios will be a throwback retro rocker, “Wrong Side of the Tracks”.

Recorded in mono to capture a classic rock feel, the tone of “Wrong Side of the Tracks” is both honest and authentic.

Cornwell’s vocal ability is effortless. While some singers force their vocals, Hugh lets ‘em ride naturally in true laid back style. With a decidedly snarky tone and a vocal swagger that only a punk legend could pull off, Cornwell’s vocals are fun to sing, but hard to nail completely. Subtle nuances will keep you on your toes.

The bass track for “Wrong Side of the Tracks” plays a counter melody to Cornwell’s vocals, making it both a unique and hard arrangement. This track is not overly technical, it keeps the groove strong throughout the entire song.

As for drums, our resident author Damian had this to say about the sweet track:

“It will be complex and challenging for Rock Band drummers, but it has an incredibly natural drum part for real life drummers. It feels like you are rockin’ out on a real set.”

With a quirky, blues guitar riff, this song is straightforward rock and roll and no frilly filler.

If you enjoy good old-fashioned rock ‘n’ roll, this is one you won’t want to miss.
