The New Pornographers

If you’re been aching for more DLC goodness from The New Pornographers since their last offering (March 2009), we have some great news for you! Three singles from their brand new album Together are making their way to Rock Band via the Rock Band Network.

Joining the group’s Rock Band catalog are the tracks “Crash Years,” “Moves,” and the album’s quasi-title track “Your Hands (Together),” which has already been downloaded over 300,000 times! People are absolutely loving this track.

With five albums to their name — Mass Romantic (Mint, 2000), Electric Version (Mint/ Matador 2003), Twin Cinema (2005), Challengers (Matador, 2007), and Together (Matador, 2010) — the indie power pop group has amassed quite an extensive resume since its inception in 1997.

Since their first album in 2000, The New Pornographers’ acclaim and fan base has only increased. Most recently, Together earned a spot in the top 20 on the Billboard Top 200. In 2007, Blender.com picked TNP’s Mass Romantic as # 24 of The Guide’s “100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums Ever”. The band has also been featured in an overwhelming amount of television soundtracks including The Office, Weeds, Heroes, Chuck, Numb3rs, Ugly Betty, and Queer as Folk (to name a few).

The New Pornographers’ new and visually stunning music video for “Your Hands (Together)” is now available on YouTube. Spin has even named the video as a New Music Report pick of the week.

While “Your Hands (Together)” may not initially bring to mind talented athletes practicing capoeira in a dojo, the juxtaposition between the sheer energy and power of the song and athletic prowess and grace of the performers is breath taking. Old and new fans alike will love the creativity and originality of the video. With over 17,000 views in its first two weeks, it’s well on its way to becoming a popular web hit.

The New Pornographers are self professed Rock Band fans. How awesome would it be to play these tracks from Together with the actual band members? A fan can dream, can’t they? TNP’s “Electric Version” was on the official Rock Band (2007) set list, and “Use It” (2009) and “All of the Things That Go to Make Heaven and Earth”(2009) were available as DLC in 2009.
