A little while back, we posted an announcement about Vancouver-based rock quartet, The Fury. The first single making its way to Rock Band Network is “Beauty Queen” a tale about false friends and a superficial industry.
If you ever though you had the chops to tour the road as a female (or male) rock singer, try to ace Chase Patterson’s vocals first. Patterson’s vocals are reminiscent of Anne Wilson’s (Heart) powerful and emotive voice. Patterson can really hold a note so make sure you take a deep breath before you try to tackle the ends of such lines as, “you’re a beauty queen, beauty queen,” Unexpected vocal dips appear when you least expect it. When Patterson sings, “and they tell you they love you,” the vocalist is going to have to throw some attitude behind that “love” to make sure they nail the nuances in Patterson‘s voice.
The guitar track for “Beauty Queen” will definitely keep you on your toes. The track is varied. Ranging from fast single strums, to even faster three chord strums, to meandering scales, this track has it all. I would have to say that the best part of the guitar track is the ’80s/early ’90s inspired guitar solo after the breakdown, right where Patterson screams “watch it fade away, watch it fade away.” Wu’s solo is a little bit Opeth, a little bit early GnR. It’s so catchy, you will want to play the track again just for the sweet solo.
As of publishing, “Beauty Queen” is in Peer Review on the Rock Band Network Creators Club.
