Ballyhoo!’s Back Again with “Paper Dolls”

Earlier this month, we posted a preview video for Ballyhoo!’s catchy tune “Cali Girl,” which many of you will definitely pick up for RBN. Now, we are proud to bring you another Ballyhoo! track, fan favorite “Paper Dolls.”

As with every Ballyhoo! chart, the vocal track in “Paper Dolls” is both enjoyable to sing and undeniably catchy. But, “Paper Dolls” most unique factor is lead singer Howi’s vocals, which are full of nuances and dips on this track. The chorus is easy to catch on to, but the verses are tricky. In the second verse, Howi comes close to melodically rapping while never pausing to take a breath. Players may want to listen to the track before jumping right in with the vocals.

The bass track for “Paper Dolls” provides a cool counter melody to the mostly staccato vocal verse. As always, Ballyhoo!’s bass track is full of groove and laid back style.

Improvisational drummers are going to love “Paper Dolls.” It is full of fun drum fills, specifically before and after the bridge where Howi sings “I’m paper so are you.” After the verse, the drums flow into a laid back, almost R+B inspired breakdown.

Guitarists, the verses of “Paper Dolls” follow the ska/reggae riff pattern. This guitar part is percussive, with many accents on the upbeats. Keep an eye out for single notes apart from chords. There are a lot of single gem percussive strums that are bound to trip a few players up.

Look for both “Paper Dolls” and “Cali Girl” on RBN. Both tracks are currently in Playtesting, so if you’re a members of the RBN Creators Club, you can play them today!
